IP Scanner overview
IP Scanner scans your local area network to determine the identity of all machines and Internet devices on the LAN. It was designed to allow you to customize your scan results; once a device has been identified, you may assign it a custom icon and name to more easily recognize it at a glance. Powerful results, yet easy and intuitive to use.

- Sort network list by device name, IP address, MAC address or Last Seen
- Get an overview of the current network or view changes over time in the 'cumulative mode'
- Highly configurable display - don't need to see the MAC address column, then don't display it! Text too small, then make it larger!
- Double-click a device to obtain more information and to customize its appearance; assign custom icons based on MAC address or IP number
- Add devices you know to a whitelist to better highlight new/unknown ones
- Right-click a device to initiate Ping or port scans
- Local network segments are scanned automatically; custom ranges may be added manually
If, when you launch the app, your browser is redirected to a German YouTube clip, it means you are using a pirated serial number! The app will still work, but consider buying a license at some point!
What's new in version 5.26
- Updated app identifier to conform with latest MacOS security requirements. This unfortunately requires the creation of a new preferences file. If you have customized your scan results, please export those customizations from the previous version of IP Scanner (File menu -> Export Custom Names) and re-import in version 5.26 of IP Scanner.

IP Scanner is a neat great App that I am using since years. There is also an iPhone Version that works well together with it. It is clear, shows relevant information and has often solved problems, like what has taken a crucial IP in the router by mistake . As many IP-Scan-Apps in the MacAppStore require a fee, I don’t consider it weird, that to test the App, only the first 6 IP’s are shown, and to find the rest a payment is needed. It shows Apple-TV, HomePods, Printers, TimeCapsule, IOS, and any other Network uses. It can also Ping hardware. For better differentiation, Icons and correct names can be applied to the list.

It's interesting. It found what few devices I run on my LAN. What surprised me was that it identified the IP address my VPN uses locally. What disappointed me was that if I have it scanning and attempt to connect my VPN, the connection fails. If I then Quit IP Scanner, my VPN connection still fails! It didn't matter if the VPN kill switch was on or off. There was no remaining background IP Scanner process. It had simply flummoxed my VPN software. I ended up having to inactivate my Network connection with both IP Scanner and my VPN software Quit. Booting and connecting my VPN connection then worked. ANNOYING. - - Conclusion: If you have reason to wonder if there are mystery 'devices', or processes using an IP address on your LAN, this is useful. Otherwise, not.

Few things more annoying than seeing a product that says Free ("Absolutely Free") only to waste your time downloading, installing, and finding out its limited and basically useless until you pay 45 dollars. I'm open to purchasing an app, not interested in giving my money to the team that try to trick you into purchasing their app. Specify whats limited on your "Free" app and stop wasting peoples time. Uninstalled.
